Every attentive reader of the Bible has at some time encountered difficulty in understanding a particular expression of Scripture or one of its teachings. Often the problem is that an explanation may at first appear convincing, yet it contradicts one or even several other passages of the Bible. Then one realizes that something is not right.

The Bible was written through the working of the Holy Spirit. Through it God has given us instruction and help for our lives. Although He allowed it to be written down by weak and fallible men, its message must be harmonious and free from contradiction. Therefore, only an interpretation that agrees with the whole testimony of the Holy Scriptures can ultimately be correct.

My desire is to present explanations of biblical doctrines that may be helpful in this regard, especially for born-again Christians. No reader should be discouraged if one article or another follows an unfamiliar or even unpopular course. Rather, I encourage every reader to examine all things carefully by the Scriptures and to seek God's guidance in prayer.

It is not my intention to provoke public discussions or controversies concerning biblical questions. I am persuaded that true understanding does not come through debate or by comparing various commentators, but from God Himself. He alone can open or close spiritual eyes. To those who come before Him in humility and full consecration, He is able to grant understanding.

For this reason, I ask every reader first to read the article “Understanding.”

Once again, I do not desire to stir up controversy regarding biblical subjects. Jesus likewise did not do so, but rather warned us against unprofitable disputes. The interpretations presented here are the result of many years of Bible study and prayer. The explanations set forth appear to me to be clear and free from contradiction. For this I am deeply grateful to God and hope they may also help others gain clarity concerning these biblical subjects.
