Guide and Practical Tips for Better Understanding Biblical Teachings

Guide

To gain a better understanding of biblical teachings, other websites and practical tips can also be helpful. Here are a few small lights...

Bible Translations

Anyone who wants to better understand the Bible as the “word from God’s mouth” would actually have to read it in its original languages – Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Since this is not possible for most people, Bible translations with Strong's Numbers (also called Strong's Concordance Numbers) are a valuable aid.

Each word of the original biblical text has been assigned a unique number. By comparing where a word with the same Strong's Number appears throughout the Bible, examining the context in which it is used, and considering its meaning in those passages, it becomes possible to study the original biblical text even without knowing the biblical languages.

Because Strong's Numbers are permanently linked to the words of the original texts, they are used primarily in literal or structurally faithful Bible translations.

When discussing biblical topics, many people prefer a particularly old or supposedly "unmodified" Bible translation. But do the earliest translations always provide the best results?

Martin Luther, for example, published a complete German translation of the Bible in 1534, yet he personally revised and improved it numerous times until 1545.

Another aspect should also be considered. Newly discovered manuscripts, together with the digitization of existing copies, now make it possible to reconstruct the original biblical text much more accurately. It is well known that the original manuscripts written by the biblical authors themselves have not been preserved. Instead, numerous copies from different periods are available.

My notes, compiled over many years, are not intended to provide a complete comparison of Bible translations. They do, however, contain many observations and interesting insights that may encourage further personal study.
